Credits & cost transparency

What the sparkle means, which actions cost, and how your balance works.

Some actions ask an AI model to do work, and those spend credits. We want you to know which ones before you click, so every credit-spending action carries the same small marker.

What a credit is

A credit is a unit of AI work. It is not a unit of time, and it does not map to a number of words, pages, or documents — the same passage can cost different amounts depending on what you ask about it. What a credit buys is one model doing one piece of reading and thinking for you.

Every action that spends credits tells you its cost on the control before you press it, and the number you see is the number you are charged.

Why operations cost different amounts

Because the work differs. Coaching one passage you have selected is a small job: the coach reads the passage, a little of what surrounds it, and answers with a single observation and a question. Tracking your story across a manuscript is a much larger one — it reads far more of the book and writes back a structured map of who appears, where, and how they connect.

So the price follows the size of the reading and the size of the answer. A coach that also consults your story world — your established rules, or your character profiles — costs more than one that only reads the draft, because it is genuinely reading more.

What is free, and why

Seven coaches cost nothing at all: Spell, Grammar, Readability, Citation, Skimmability, Taxonomy and Cross-link. They run as analysis on your text rather than as a request to an AI model — no model is involved, so there is nothing to charge for.

All seven run on every save. Saving your work costs nothing, and it always will. Plain editing, formatting, reading your own documents, and drawing charts from results you already have are free for the same reason.

Spending fewer credits

  • Select the passage you want help with rather than coaching the whole document. A selection is the cheapest coaching you can run, and usually the most useful — a focused question beats a general one.
  • Let the free coaches handle mechanics. Spelling, grammar, readability and citation formatting are already covered on every save; you do not need to spend a paid pass on them.
  • Run the larger analyses when the result will change what you do next — after a draft is finished rather than mid-scene, and when you are ready to act on what comes back.
  • Bring your own AI provider key if you have one. Most credit-spending actions run on your key instead, and cost you no credits at all.

If you run out

Nothing is lost and nothing is locked. Your work, your projects, and every result you have already received stay exactly where they are, and you can keep writing, editing, and saving — the free coaches keep running on every save.

What stops is the actions that spend credits: they tell you the balance is short instead of running, so you are never charged for a partial result. Top up or wait for your plan to refresh, and they work again.

The sparkle

A sparkle next to a button or control means that action spends credits. Its presence is a reliable signal — if there is no sparkle, the action does not cost credits. Hover the sparkle for a short note on what it spends.

What costs credits

  • Each turn of the project setup interview, and each ideation or coaching turn.
  • Building a voice profile from your interview.
  • Generating, coaching, and re-evaluating an outline.
  • Running a Quick review or a Full editorial pass on a document.
  • Research gap analysis and research sessions.

Everything in “What is free” above never spends credits, however often you do it.

Your balance

Your current balance shows in the top of the app next to your account. Credits are reserved before an action runs and only confirmed when it succeeds — if something fails, or an interview ends early, the credits it did not use are returned. You can review usage and top up from Billing.

Referral rewards

If someone you invited moves to a paid plan, you earn a one-off credit boost matching that plan’s monthly allowance. It never expires. New rewards wait a short while before they land — a routine check that keeps the programme honest — and Billing shows you the amount and the date it becomes yours to spend.

Every word is yours

Oghmere coaches your writing without ever generating prose, so the manuscript stays human-authored. Each project has a Transparency Report listing every AI interaction, plus a ready-to-copy disclosure statement.

A growing "Human Authored" movement lets writers certify that the prose in their work is human-written, and Oghmere coaching keeps you inside those rules. The Transparency Report links to two optional schemes: the Authors Guild in the US (open to all US authors, $10 per title, US-published works) and the Society of Authors in the UK (free but members-only for now, UK-published works). Outside the US and UK there is no scheme yet. Eligibility is each scheme’s to decide; Oghmere does not certify, endorse, or vouch for your work. Checked 2026-08-07.
